The long wait for the upgrade of the 6.8-kilometre ShivakalaβNyayo Tea Zone Road is coming to an end as tarmacking works progress steadily, reflecting H.E. Dr. Fernandes Barasaβs commitment to expanding the countyβs road network, improving connectivity, and unlocking economic opportunities across Kakamega County.
During an inspection visit to the project, Governor Barasa said the road will strengthen connectivity between Shirere and Mahiakalo Wards in Lurambi Sub-County, ease the movement of people and goods, improve access to markets and essential services, and spur the area’s socio-economic growth. The project is expected to be completed within the next three months.
The Governor noted that his administration is delivering approximately 40 kilometres of bitumen roads across the county while continuously maintaining the all-weather road network to improve mobility and accelerate development. He added that other strategic road projects currently under implementation include MalavaβShitirira Road in Malava Sub-County, MalahaβKhaunga Road in Mumias East, MatunguβOgallo Road in Matungu, ManyonyiβLumakanda Road in Lugari, and MumiasβMatawaβIndangalasia Road in Mumias West.
Governor Barasa further observed that beyond improving transport, the ongoing infrastructure projects are creating employment opportunities, putting money into the hands of young people, supporting businesses, and strengthening local economies. He also highlighted other development initiatives being implemented in the area, including the construction of ECDE centres, expansion of street lighting, and enhancement of water connectivity.
The Governor was accompanied by Members of the County Assembly led by area MCA Hon. David Ikunza, Senior County Government Officials, and other local leaders.
