Ninety-one teams from Lurambi Sub-County the home of Kakamega Municipality and host of the 2023 Governor’s Cup grand finale have unanimously fired warning shots to opponents in the other Sub-Counties to prepare for proper thrashing at the County level.

Through their Coordinator Mr Benard Mungo, the teams said they are well prepared for the 2023 Kakamega Governor’s Cup edition; Lurambi Sub-County’s Ward level matches commence this weekend, 23rd September 2023 in all the six Wards.

“We respect our opponents from the other Sub-Counties but they will forgive us on this one; we are going for nothing else but the Governor’s trophy,” Mr Mungo asserted, amidst applause from the six Ward coordinators. He was speaking during the kits distribution exercise at Butsotso South Ward Administrator’s Office at Bukura.

Lurambi has the second highest number of registered teams after Malava Sub-County’s 101 teams.

Chief Officer for Sports, Youth and Library Services Mr Joseph Abucheri asked the participants to exercise high levels of discipline and fair play as the tournament gains momentum towards the Sub-County level.

The exercise also saw another team of Officers led by Sports Officer and former Harambee Stars attacker Allan Wanga distribute the kits in Butere Sub-County which has 80 registered teams.

Teams in Malava and Ikolomani Sub-Counties will play their Ward finals on Saturday and Sunday respectively as Butere, Lurambi and Shinyalu kick off their Ward matches same weekend.
