Governor Barasa Visits Victims of the Collapsed Goldmine

This morning, H.E. Governor FCPA Fernandes Barasa visited the site of the goldmine that collapsed yesterday at Imachilifu Village, Museno Community Area, Isukha South Ward, Shinyalu Constituency.

The incident involved 20 miners who were buried in the shaft, 18 of whom have been rescued, with 10 currently receiving medical attention at the County General Hospital. Efforts to rescue the remaining two are ongoing.

Governor Barasa appreciated the County Disaster Team and all stakeholders involved in the rescue operations for their swift response to the tragedy. He wished all the survivors a quick recovery and called upon the Ministry of Mining, Blue Economy, and Maritime Affairs to fast-track the establishment of the Ikolomani Gold Refinery Plant to create employment, enhance safety, and prevent further loss of lives.

He was accompanied by MCAs led by the host, Hon. Charles Lwanga, County Executives, CECM Dr. Bonface Okoth, County Secretary and Head of Public Service Dr. Lawrence Omuhaka, Chief Officers, and other senior officials.
