KAKAMEGA STORMS INTO QUARTER FINALS AS KIYSA GAMES ENTER DAY 4

A man of the match performance by Esau Meja and a goal a piece in each half by Kevin Shimwenyi and Rodman Imbali inspired Kakamega County soccer men team to book a slot in the quarter finals of this year’s Kenya Intercounty Sports Association (KIYSA) at Kapsabet boys High school, Nandi county after seeing off a determined Busia County 2-0 in the third pool match yesterday. The men’s soccer team, favourites in their pool, displayed a dazzling performance that has so far seen them dispatch Makueni 3-1, Busia 2-0 and Nandi 1-0 before settling for a 1-1 draw with Nakuru county.

In the women football, Irene Lipesa led from the front as Kakamega team beat Marsabit 3-0 before settling for a goalless draw with Kwale county. It was a mixed result however for the men volleyball team as they won their first match by 3 sets to 1 against Uasin Gishu before falling 4-1 to a clinical Kirinyaga county team.

KIYSA is an Intercounty championship started in 2014 to harness and nurture talent among the youths in the counties in Football, Volleyball and Basketball disciplines.

In attendance is the County Director of Sports Mr. James Muchiri, Sports Development officer Mr. Edward Odera and staff from the Ministry of Social Services, Culture, Youths and Sports among others.
